Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) refers to the ability of a device or system to operate in compliance with the requirements in its electromagnetic environment and not produce intolerable electromagnetic interference to any device in its environment.

Therefore, EMC includes two requirements: on the one hand, the electromagnetic interference generated by the equipment in the environment during normal operation cannot exceed a certain limit; on the other hand, it means that the equipment has a certain degree of electromagnetic interference in the environment. The degree of immunity, that is, electromagnetic susceptibility.

In the International Electrotechnical Commission standard IEC, electromagnetic compatibility is defined as: the system or equipment can work normally in the electromagnetic environment in which it is located, and will not cause interference to other systems and equipment. EMC includes EMI (electromagnetic interference) and EMS (electromagnetic tolerance). The so-called EMI electromagnetic interference refers to the electromagnetic noise generated by the machine itself that is not conducive to other systems in the process of performing its due function; and EMS refers to the machine The ability not to be affected by the surrounding electromagnetic environment in the process of performing its due function.

Electromagnetic compatibility application range:
1. IT information technology field;
2. Modern medical equipment, medical equipment related electronic and electrical fields;
3. Automotive electronics. The application of automotive electronics technology is related to the electromagnetic environment of the automobile, which is mainly caused by the electromagnetic environment where the vehicle is located. At the same time, the ability of the vehicle itself to resist electromagnetic disturbance is also very important.
4. Mechanical equipment and electrical equipment system, EMC electromagnetic compatibility related safety requirements;
5. Due to the development of electronic, electrical, wireless communication, radar detection and other technologies and their increasing application in the aerospace field, related electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and electromagnetic interference (EMI) issues have also received increasing attention. Compatibility disciplines have thus developed.
6. Electromagnetic compatibility EMI specific safety requirements for lighting products;
7. For household electrical appliances, due to the continuous deterioration of the electromagnetic environment, the issue of electromagnetic compatibility has also received more and more attention, and the electromagnetic compatibility standards of household electrical appliances have been continuously updated with actual needs.
