The full name of EMC (Electro Magnetic Compatibility) is Electro Magnetic Compatibility, which is defined as "the ability of equipment and systems to work normally in their electromagnetic environment and not cause unbearable electromagnetic disturbance to anything in the environment." This definition includes two aspects. Meaning, first, the device should be able to work normally in a certain electromagnetic environment, that is, the device should have a certain degree of electromagnetic immunity (EMS); second, the electromagnetic disturbance generated by the device itself should not cause excessive disturbance to other electronic products. Influence, namely electromagnetic disturbance (EMI).

EMI (electro magnetic interference) electromagnetic disturbance.
Refers to the electromagnetic disturbance caused by the equipment itself to the environment during work
EMS (electro magnetic susceptibility) electromagnetic anti-interference.
Refers to the equipment has a certain resistance to electromagnetic interference in the electromagnetic environment.

EMC test items
EMI electromagnetic interference: RE (radiated emission) CE (conducted emission) Harmonics (harmonic current) Flicker (flicker)
EMS electromagnetic anti-jamming: ESD (electrostatic immunity) RS (radiation immunity) EFT (electric fast and variable pulse group) Surge (surge immunity) CS (conducted immunity) PMS (power frequency magnetic field immunity) ) Dips (voltage drop)

To verify the electromagnetic compatibility of the product is EMC certification.

The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive 2014/30/EU ensures that electrical and electronic equipment will not generate or be unaffected by electromagnetic interference.

The EMC directive limits the electromagnetic radiation of equipment to ensure that such equipment does not interfere with radio and telecommunications and other equipment when used as intended. The directive also stipulates the immunity of such equipment to interference and seeks to ensure that the equipment is not interfered by radio radiation when used as intended.

The main goal of this directive is to regulate the compatibility of EMC-related equipment:

Equipment (equipment and fixed equipment) needs to comply with EMC requirements when it is put on the market and/or put into use

Fixtures need to adopt good engineering practices, and the competent authorities of EU countries may take measures in case of violations.

EMC certification method

The equipment conformity assessment procedure has been simplified into a single procedure. There is no mandatory participation by third parties, but manufacturers can choose to submit their technical documents to the certification body for evaluation.

Three methods can be used for EMC assessment:

a) Application of EMC harmonized standards;
b) EMC evaluation, in which no unified standard is applied, and the manufacturer adopts its own method.
c) Mixed assessment, combining the first two methods. For example, harmonized standards can be used to cover emission phenomena and detailed technical EMC assessments for immunity.
