The full name of RED certification (The Radio Equipment Directive) RED certification is one of the EU's mandatory CE certification model for wireless product certification. Products with wireless transmission frequency such as tablet computers, wireless doorbells, Bluetooth devices, WiFi equipment, wireless alarm equipment, radio receiving and transmission equipment, telephones, computers, etc., all need to apply for RED certification.
On May 22, 2014, the European Union officially announced a new version of the wireless equipment directive RED 2014/53/EU. This directive is based on the European Union’s new CE framework resolution 768/2008/EC. RED 2014/53/EU replaces the original Some European Union Radio Equipment Directive R&TTE-D 1999/5/EC.
After June 13, 2017, only wireless devices assessed in accordance with the new RED 2014/53/EU will be allowed to be sold on the EU market. The purpose of the new directive is to clarify the scope of spectrum use, improve the effectiveness of spectrum use, and make it easier for member countries to implement regulations and conduct market monitoring.
The Wireless Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU applies to all types of wireless equipment. Compared with the old R&TTE directive, broadcast radio now also belongs to the category of the wireless directive RED. The telecommunications terminal equipment no longer belongs to the wireless directive RED category, and is listed as the EMC or LVD directive.
The basic requirements of the RED directive are:
Art. 3.1a. Protect the safety and health of equipment users or anyone else.
Art. 3.1b. Comply with electromagnetic field compatibility requirements (EMC).
Art. 3.2. Effective use of wireless spectrum resources to avoid harmful interference.
Art. 3.3 Special requirements
RED certification includes two aspects
One is RE: Radio Equipment wireless products (such as mobile phones)
The second is TTE: Telecommunication Terminal Equipment
Before communication terminal equipment and wireless products can be legally sold in EU countries, they must be tested and approved according to the R&TTE directive, and they must also have the CE-mark. Wireless remote control products and communication products must comply with the R&TTE Directive (Radio and Communication Terminal Directive) -1999/5/EC requirements.
R&TTE product certification scope
1. Short-range wireless remote control products (SRD) such as: remote control toy cars, remote control alarm systems, remote control doorbells, remote control opening
2. Turn off, remote control mouse, keyboard, etc.
3. Radio remote control products (PMR) such as wireless walkie-talkies, wireless microphones, etc.
4. Wired telephone, fax, MODEM, telephone answering machine, small switchboard (PABX)
5. Wireless phone CTO, CT1, CT1+...
6. ISDN (digital telephone products)
7. DECT (enhanced digital wireless telephone)
8. Mobile phone GSM, CDMA test
9. Bluetooth products such as Bluetooth headsets
RED test project
